Student Recognition

I Can Club Award

I CAN Club

Student recognition is the focus of our Partnership in Education with MU Administrative Services. One part of the Student Recognition Program is the "I CAN Club." Three times a year, a student from each program can be selected by their peers and/or teachers to receive the I Can Club Award. A recognition breakfast is held at the Reynolds Alumni Center for students, parents and invited guests. Students are called to the stage to receive a personalized certificate that explains why the student is receiving the award, and a pen/pencil set. Each award is personalized with an explanation of why the student is receiving the award. Students must have demonstrated behaviors - which are called Career Center Expectations - that are often associated with good employees. These behaviors are:

  • Attendance - on time and present each day, prepared to work and eager to learn.
  • Respect - demonstrate respectful behaviors towards themselves and others.
  • Responsibility - demonstrate integrity and leadership and accept responsibility for their own learning.
  • Quality - show an interest in producing high quality work, regardless of the task given.
  • Safety - demonstrate safe work habits and are careful with any tools and equipment.
  • Teamwork - demonstrate the ability to work with others and are helpful to teachers and peers.

After a recent I Can Club breakfast, Sharon Naylor, mother of one of the students recognized, sent a note of appreciation:

"We attended the program at the Alumnae Center and thought you all did an outstanding job."

CTSO (Student Club) Awards
Career and Technical Student Organizations (CTSO) are an integral part of the curriculum providing activities that enhance a student's CACC experience. CTSOs have the following goals: personal growth and self-confidence; leadership and cooperation; respect for work and career development; community understanding; and love of country. Learn about CTSO options.
Outstanding Student Awards
The Outstanding Student Award is the highest honor the Columbia Area Career Center (CACC) offers. CACC instructors nominate students for the award based on their grades, coursework, work habits, and attendance. Student finalists submit an application and essay as well as participate in an interview arranged by the University of Missouri Administrative Services, CACC's Partner in Education. The Outstanding Student Winner is announced at the Outstanding Student Ceremony held at Jesse Hall on the University of Missouri campus in May.
