Laser Technology

Description: This class introduces students to photonics, one of the fastest growing technical fields. In this class, students will use lasers and fiber optics in a practical setting and explore the many ways these technologies impact their lives. Students will use lasers for measurement, communication and audio/video enhancement; they will create holograms, engrave, develop light shows, design security systems and examine forensic and other engineering applications. Students will be given the opportunity to create 3D computer graphics as holograms. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the use of light and color as they explore a variety of imaging techniques. There are several fieldtrips planned to observe laser applications. Through SPIE (a student chapter of a professional organization), students will explore cutting edge projects and communicate with students and professors around the world.
