The Adult Learning Center (ALC) provides adult education and literacy services, including GED preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL), civics/citizenship, and workforce skills training

ALC instructors use the Equipped for the Future (EFF) curriculum framework to help adults carry out their roles and responsibilities as employees, parents, and community members.

EFF Standards focus on the skills for success today like communication, decision making, interpersonal and lifelong learning. EFF helps adults identify the knowledge and skills that they need to pass the Tests of General Educational Development (GED), to get jobs and keep them, and to move from entry-level jobs to higher-skilled, higher-paying jobs.

Has it been awhile since you've been in a classroom setting? Classes are structured to provide various learning formats to address your style of learning. Teaching techniques include individualized, group and computerized instruction. GED online is available to interested students.

Adult Learning Center classes are offepink throughout the year (July-June). Please note that when Columbia Public Schools are closed due to weather conditions, ALC classes will also be closed. Listen to local radio stations to hear cancellations.

A friend of mine convinced me to enroll with her in the beginning belly dancing class. It was a lot of fun and a great way to spend time with girlfriends. There were fabulous accessories too (scarves, finger cymbals, swords)!

An associate and I took the Access 2003 class. The instructor was wonderful and very patient with all of our questions. He would take the time to work with our specific needs and not just give us textbook answers. That one on one time he gave us in class made the entire course worthwhile! I highly recommend taking classes at the Career Center!
